South Valley Improvements Overview

UDOT is collaborating with its partners in Sandy, South Jordan, and Riverton to address congestion and improve transportation infrastructure in anticipation of future economic and population growth. Next year, there will be multiple UDOT projects in the South Valley that will increase road capacity and improve safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. UDOT will strategically space these projects throughout the 2017-18 construction seasons to minimize impacts to residents, commuters and businesses.

These projects will begin next year to ensure alternate routes are available before larger UDOT projects begin.  UDOT will work to ensure all stakeholders impacted by these projects receive regular updates through all stages of the projects.

I-15; 10600 South Interchange Project Overview

Beginning in early 2017, UDOT will construct a crossing under 10600 South that connects the I-15 northbound off-ramp to Monroe Street. This crossing will ease off-ramp congestion and increase safety for vehicles using the off-ramp to access eastbound 10600 South. In addition, the bridge deck over I-15 will be resurfaced to provide a smoother driving surface and preserve the life of the structure. Construction is anticipated to be complete by fall 2017.

In order to complete this project as quickly as possible and with the fewest impact to the traveling public and local businesses, UDOT will close 10600 South at I-15 for 16 days. During the closure, no traffic will be allowed to cross I-15 on 10600 South. At this time, the schedule for when the closure will take place is tentatively planned to occur between June and August.

I-15; 9000 South Interchange Project Overview

UDOT plans to improve the interchange located at I-15 and 9000 South in Sandy City by adding additional lanes to the ramps and widening 9000 South, east of I-15 to Monroe Street. Improvements include lane additions to the on-and off ramps as well as signal modifications near the interchange. This project intends to alleviate traffic congestion, improve accessibility on and off I-15, and increase safety. Construction is expected to begin as early as March 2017 and is expected to continue through June 2017.
