Utah Chapter APWA Stormwater Inspector Award
Ray Herrara is the Storm Water Inspector for Sandy City. He works well and closely with city employees, residents, business owners and contractors to promote storm water quality. Ray is often called on by city employees for input regarding construction best management practices for projects being completed in the city. He is always quick to respond and provides helpful and trusted suggestions. He communicates well with residents, business owners and contractors and is good at diffusing difficult and sometimes hostile situations.
A program evaluation (audit) of Sandy City’s storm water program was conducted by the State in November 2014. Through the following year (2015), the city worked to correct deficiencies that were identified in the audit and improve the city’s storm water program. Ray played a key role in correcting the deficiencies and helping to restructure the city’s program to be compliant with permit requirements. Ray has been instrumental in developing procedures for documenting the storm water program activities. He is continuously identifying new ways to make the program more efficient and successful.
