Scorekeeper of the decades, and longtime Sandy resident

Ken Reich has been a resident of Sandy his entire life. Ken attended and graduated from Jordan High School In 1970. From 1970-1973 he attended college at the University of Utah while also working for Western Film Corp. In 1973 Ken started his career at the Sandy Post Office until he retired in 2008. All of those years working at the post office have made Ken extremely familiar with Sandy City. He knows the map of Sandy City in great detail from years of sorting mail.

This is where he and his wife, Toni Reich, have raised their two daughters and son. In 1996, Ken started a side gig, working for Sandy City Parks and Recreation. He started working for the city to raise the funds to pay for his oldest daughter’s wedding. But, it didn’t stop there. Ken’s passion for sports, people, and children has continued to keep him busy on Sandy’s sports fields and basketball courts. Through the years, Ken has held various jobs for the department working as a referee, umpire, site supervisor, and score keeper.

Ken is particularly known on Sandy’s softball fields. He played in the men’s softball league for nearly 25 years. During softball season, Ken is out keeping score almost every night of the week on the ball fields. Coaches and ball players want to be wherever Ken is working. He has mentored many other score keepers that have worked for the city. Ken is a dependable individual and takes great pride in his work. He is someone that you can always count on whether he is keeping score, acting as an umpire, or if you simply need a friend.
