Take Recycling Back to the Basic on America Recycles Day
November 15, 2019 is America Recycles Day and as a result Waste Management and Sandy City are celebrating by asking residents to go back to the basics of recycling.
Help us celebrate by recycling of all your clean bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard – and ONLY your clean bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard. Not sure if something is recyclable? Adopt the saying, “when in doubt, throw it out.”
Pro Tip:For plastics, use the shape to determine if something can be recycled. If it’s a bottle, jug, or food tub with a lid, it’s recyclable. If it’s a clamshell, take-out container, flower pot, or another shape, please keep it out of your recycling cart.
When you recycle, you make a big difference. Last year, Sandy City’s recycling efforts saved enough energy to power 1,200 US homes and enough water to supply 286,000 people with fresh water.
On America Recycles day, share these three basics of recycling with friends and family:
After America Recycles Day has passed, you can continue to do your part. If you host any holiday gatherings, set up a specially-marked recycling container to collect empty aluminum cans and plastic bottles. Let guests know about the separate collection containers so they can be used correctly. Empty every drop of liquid to protect the quality of all recyclables in your bin.
Download and print signs and labels at RORR.com. Also find videos on how to set up a recycling bin system at home and to teach your kids about recycling.
With a little commitment, we can take recycling back to the basics and make it easy for everyone.
