September is National Preparedness Month - meet Sandy’s Emergency Manager, Jeff Mulcahy! Before starting with Sandy in 2015, he retired from the Air Force after 32 years of service, including time as the Public Information Officer (PIO) for the Military Joint Task Force during the Olympics. As the Emergency Manager for Sandy, Jeff has resurrected the Ready Your Business program, increased Citizen Corps participation and meets regularly with the volunteer Emergency Preparedness Leaders. He serves as a Government Operations Liason with the Red Cross, Utah Deputy Planning Coordinator with Team Rubicon, and as a member of the Salt Lake Regional Incident Management Team. Jeff recently completed FEMA’s National Basic Academy and Professional Development Series for Emergency Managers.
As our Emergency Manager, Jeff is responsible for preparing and training Sandy City employees and volunteers in emergency operations. In the last two years, he’s created an aggressive exercise and training schedule for city employees, preparing them for a variety of emergency situations (fire, earthquake, terrorism, etc). Jeff is also a great resource for Sandy residents and businesses! Business owners can attend quarterly Ready Your Business seminars for preparedness training. Residents can attend monthly Citizen Corps meetings that cover a variety of preparedness topics and can also attend CERT training for free from our Fire Department.
Jeff was born and raised in Redding, California and has been a Sandy resident since 2001. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency and Disaster Management. He is married with six “adult-sized” children and four and a half (due in December) grandchildren. In his free time, Jeff enjoys hunting, outdoor activities, sports, reading, and movies.
